Pushchairs are essential to transport your child from one place to another. There are many specialist pushchairs including models that are light and easy to push around the city to more rugged pushchairs more suited to the outdoor country.
So what should you look out for when buying a new pushchair ?
All new pushchairs should be safe and comply with BS 7409:1996.
Make sure it is suitable for your everyday needs. A baby cannot sit up properly for at least three months and a baby may outgrow a small pushchair in a matter of months. Some have space for carrying shopping, others do not.
Never leave a child unattended in a pushchair.
Do not hang shopping from the pushchair handles as it may topple.
Do not put two children in the seat, use a manufacturers approved clip-on board only.
Follow the manufacturers instructions for maintenance and check the harness and breaks regularly.

Since 1990, all pushchairs should be labelled 'Carelessness causes fire'. If it does not have this label then it is too old to be used. Other key points to look out for include :
Check the parking breaks work going forwards and backwards
Look out for finger traps and sharp edges
Make sure there are two locks to stop it from folding
Make sure that the pushchair has a 5 point safety harness as many old pushchairs have a 3 point harness. make sure that the harness is not frayed or damaged and is easy to use.
Check the wheels for heavy wear
